Apoyando
A Todos Los Padres
Using statistics distributed by the North Carolina Division
of Social Services, last year 1.454 children, living in Caldwell
County, were reported as abused and/or neglected. Of those children
reported, 689 were 0 through age six. Ninety eight (98) or 14%
of those children were of Hispanic descent.
According to the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic families
currently make up approximately 9% of the total population
in Caldwell County. These statistics are estimated based on
previous census records. Currently, the “Apoyando A
Todos Los Padres” program is just one of few services
available used to provide protection to theses children or
to target needs of their parents.
“Apoyando A Todos Los Padres” utilizes the Nurturing
Program, with all materials developed completely in Spanish.
The Nurturing Program is a comprehensive fourteen (14) week
parent enhancement program which is implemented to prevent
abusive and neglectful behavior in dealing with young children.
Parents/Caregivers who have confirmed incidences of abuse
and/or neglect or those at risk for potentially abusing and/or
neglecting their children will be referred and receive services
through the Nurturing Program. Parents and their children
will attend the classes together. The Caldwell Committee for
Healthy Families will provide three (3) fourteen-week class
sessions using this specific curriculum implemented by trained,
bilingual instructors.
