Support for Inclusion

The Support for Inclusion activity will provide training, education, and support for child care providers serving children with or at-risk for developmental disabilities in the child care setting. Staff with sound child development and inclusion knowledge will provide on site consultation and technical assistance to providers as needed on an on going basis and will develop strategies to assist providers in successfully including children with developmental disabilities in the routines and activities of their classrooms. Assistance will be provided in such areas as: modeling appropriate interaction, adaptations and/or modifications to the classroom environment and schedules. Workshops and trainings on inclusion techniques will also be provided for child care staff, parents and related early childhood professionals. Close collaboration, to include pre and post developmental screenings, will occur with other child care related projects. This activity will also assist the Comprehensive Assessment Team (C.A.T.) in administering environmental rating scales in order to assess and improve quality in the area of inclusion.
